About Us

What is School Council?

“The purpose of school councils is, through the active participation of parents,
to improve pupil achievement and to enhance the accountability of the education system to parents.”
(Ontario Regulation 612/00 of the Education Act)

For more detailed information about school councils, their roles and how they run, please refer to Ontario Regulation 612/00 and the School Council Resource Guide.

Broadview School Council

At Broadview, every parent is a voting member of council. You simply have to be present at the meeting in order for your vote to count.

Because parental involvement is a valued and necessary part of the success of our council and our school, there are a number of different ways for parents to become involved:

  • Being elected to council as a representative
  • Participating on one of council’s team. Full list of council team positions are available Council Positions.
  • Raising issues and asking questions either directly or through your representative on council
  • Attending council meetings (held the second Tuesday of each month)
  • Attending OCASC (Ottawa Carleton Assembly of School Councils) meetings
  • Follow our activities on Facebook or on this website

More details on how council operates can be found in our constitution:
