Dear Parents and Guardians of Broadview Public School,

I’ve included some new updates as well as some older ones in this message. Please see the bottom of the message for important links to additional information.

Student Vigilance in the Community

Now that Spring has finally arrived, it’s a good time to remind children of the importance of being vigilant in the community between home and school. For our grade 8 students participating in Mini-Enrichment courses next week, it’s of particular importance as well! When not accompanied by an adult, children should walk with a friend, not approach unfamiliar adults (strangers) and make sure a parent knows their travel plans. Any encounters with unfriendly individuals should be reported to both home and school. We will follow up with our School Resource Officer, if necessary. Students should also be respectful of homeowner’s properties by sticking to the streets and sidewalks.

Students who bike to school must lock their bicycles in the bike parking areas with a good lock and must always wear a helmet. Bikes must be walked when anywhere on school property (including in our parking lots).

Dress for the Weather

Outdoor play supports an engaged indoor learner. At Broadview we send students out for recess whenever we can. Please send students to school with clothing appropriate for the weather. We will not send students out for recess in they will be soaked by a downpour or if there is lightning nearby, but they can expect to be out in a light drizzle.

School Climate Survey

Thank you to the 18 parents who have completed our school climate survey! I really appreciate that you took the time to do so. To the other 1000 parents, please do consider taking the time to complete this survey. Being in my first year at Broadview, this data is exceptionally important feedback that I will inform my planning for the coming years here at Broadview. The parent survey is open now until to May 11, 2018. Use this link to access it:

Yearbook

Broadview has two yearbooks available for purchase, and this has caused some confusion. This year’s yearbook is produced by our intermediate students and is primarily for our intermediate students. It is available for purchase for $20 and can be ordered online at ybpay.lifetouch.com with the code 12444418 for Broadview.

We are also have a yearbook that was published in 2016 to mark Broadview’s Centennial anniversary. This is for sale on School Cash Online for $10. When purchasing a yearbook, please be sure you are purchasing the correct book.

Book Bonanza (Thursday May 10-Saturday May 12)

This year marks Broadview Public School's 43rd Annual Book Bonanza!! This is one of the school's largest fundraisers and we need lots of help to sort, organize, and sell thousands of books. Come and meet other parents within the Broadview community or bring some friends and enjoy the fun, social atmosphere. Thanks for lending a hand!! Sign up to help with this year’s Book Bonanza!
