Background:
Broadview is one the largest JK-8 Elementary schools in the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. The Broadview community has expectations of maintaining and improving its strong academic program and well-rounded school life for all, including ample outdoor time and creative and diverse instructional approaches. Being a large school with French and English streams, specialized program classes, poses both opportunities and challenges.
Expectations and valued qualities for a Broadview Principal:
Character: Demonstrates strong character by her commitment to the school community. Visible, approachable, reliable, empathetic, optimistic and respectful. Embraces equity not only in words but in actions. Recognizes student strengths, providing them with opportunities to foster and grow in their independence and confidence as a learner.
Embraces Diversity: Is sensitive to the diversity and the diverse needs of the school community, celebrates acceptance and equitable practices.
Demonstrates Knowledge and Skill: Brings a high degree of knowledge and skill to the role. Being open to innovative ideas, staying on top of the latest research and evidence based practices and having a strong belief that all students have the right to a dynamic learning experience. Advocates for all students and is supportive of their unique and individual needs.
Leads: Helps to co-create a vision focused on equity and opportunity for all. Builds a strong foundation by building positive relationships with staff, students, parents and community members. Puts the safety of students at the forefront of all decision making. Is consistent, transparent, present/visible and fair with regards to progressive discipline. Recognizes the skills of staff, students and parents and empowers them to work towards shared goals.
Parent/Community Voice: Makes time to meet with parents and community members to listen to their thoughts and concerns. Embraces differences and seeks to understand different perspectives. Liaises with local and social community agencies and groups. Is knowledgeable about opportunities that exist, seeking to increase opportunities for all and build connections.
Reflective Thinker: Is self reflective. Reviews data, both quantitative and qualitative. Seeks to continue in his/her own learning journey. Reaches out to experts and is not afraid to seek the expertise of others.

Supports Parent/Community Involvement: In order to be responsive to our community, embrace community support. Is committed to our School Council and working to grow in our partnership. Openly and regularly communicates with parents about all aspects that may impact our community.
